Volunteers from the football club have donated £2,000 to our hospice in memory of one of their members who died in August.
Anne Hall, from Cheadle Hulme, was a patient at our hospice. Anne was a lifelong County fan, who died of cancer aged 73, shortly before fellow supporters held a programme fair at Edgeley Park.
Help The Hatters raised £1,685 from the memorabilia event which attracted programme collectors from far and wide. The figure was rounded up to £2,000 by generous Stockport fans, and will go towards our Build It Together appeal for a new hospice at Heald Green.
Group treasurer John Gaskin said: “We were saddened by the news of Ann’s death. She was a loyal County fan and a much-loved member of Help The Hatters.
“We’re delighted to have raised funds for St Ann’s and wish the Hospice good luck in their fundraising campaign. We know how much it means to St Ann’s to get this new hospice built as soon as possible.”
Our hospice is also close to the heart of fellow member Eddie Powell, from Hillgate, whose grandfather Stan Woodward (88) died in the hospice in 2002.
Help The Hatters was formed as a self-funding group 13 years ago, shortly after County went into administration.
Volunteers engage with the club and local community. They clean the stadium after each event, carry out refurbishment work and support and work with local charities.
