St Ann’s Hospice welcomed members of the public to its Heald Green site for an update on the ongoing construction of the new £26.5m hospice building.

Construction of the new hospice is well underway and is on target to be completed by autumn, 2025.

Members of the public came along on the day to see the progress for themselves and meet key members of the project team. Plans, concepts, and interior design ideas were showcased in the Being You Centre at St Ann’s Hospice, Heald Green.

The public were also given an insight into recent and upcoming fundraising efforts the hospice is undertaking to secure the continued construction of the new hospice.

The Build it Together update event also provided St Ann’s, including members of the executive, trustees, and clinical teams the opportunity to celebrate some key milestones including the completion of the steel structure of the Being You Centre and the laying of the bricks of the inpatient unit which is now beginning to take shape.

The public Build it Together appeal also aims to raise a total of £2,000,000 to go towards the construction of the new build, so far, St Ann’s due to the phenomenal effort of the community have raised over £1,400,000. The Build it Together update event was held as it is important to show the community and stakeholders how their efforts have shaped the construction of the new build.

There is now a final push being made to secure the final £600,000 to secure the continued construction and delivery of the new hospice building.

Chief Executive of St Ann’s Hospice, Rachel McMillan said she was “delighted” to welcome the public to St Ann’s Hospice on the day.

“Welcoming the public to view the ongoing construction of the St Ann’s Hospice new build in Heald Green has been wonderful. Updating the public and our stakeholders about the progress being made on the new site and informing everyone on what to expect when the new hospice site is operational has been of the utmost importance to us here at St Ann’s. I would like to thank everyone who turned out today, your continued support means the world to us,” Rachel said.

“I would like to formally thank Caddick Construction for facilitating today’s event and for their continued hard work to keep the construction of the hospice on schedule to be delivered in autumn, 2025. I would also like to once again thank Caddick for their support in sponsoring our Light up a Life services taking place in December,” Rachel said.

Project Manager of the St Ann’s Hospice new build, Lee Haughton of Caddick Construction said:

“Caddick Construction are delighted to welcome vested stakeholders and the wider public this afternoon with a visit to site here at the new St Anns site to witness and visualize the good progress being made as both the inpatient unit and the Being You Centre buildings are starting to take shape. St Ann’s Hospice are a fantastic organisation, a charity that provides essential care and support to both the local and wider region,” Lee said.

“I take this opportunity to remind those invested and the wider public, that without their incredible support, this ambitious life-changing project would not be possible, please maintain the message, spreading the word far and wide with regards to the care and support St Ann’s provide as myself, the team and all at Caddick Construction work towards the finish line,” Lee added.

Ward Sister at St Ann’s Hospice, Lynsey Ayers said it was great to get the opportunity to see progress being made on the site.

“It was exciting and really positive to see the new build up close. I have worked at St Ann’s for ten years now and the new build is something that has always been talked about and to see it happening now is fantastic,” Lynsey said.

St Ann’s supporter and member of Bramall Park Golf Club in Stockport Chris Fensom said the new build “looks amazing”.

“It’ll be fantastic for patients and families to have a new hospice to come to and St Ann’s will be able to do so much more with this new building,” Chris said.

The new purpose-built hospice will replace the current Victorian building. St Ann’s new hospice will be a complete care facility in Greater Manchester that local people can access, from diagnosis of a life-limiting illness through their treatment and beyond. It will be located on land next door to the current Heald Green hospice on St Ann’s Road North.

The new building will include a 27-bed inpatient unit including individual en-suite rooms and access to private outdoor terraces. The development will also feature modern outpatient services, dedicated bereavement and family support spaces, all surrounded by beautiful, landscaped gardens.
